Susan Cleary has served as IFTA’s Vice President and General Counsel for the past 14 years. Cleary focuses on international licensing and distribution, new media, intellectual property protection, market conditions and government relations. She also oversees IFTA Arbitration, an international arbitration tribunal, and IFTA Collections, a division that collects cable retransmission royalties and blank tape levies for disbursement to independent rights’ holders. Previously, Cleary served as associate counsel at the Motion Picture Association of America and production counsel for World of Wonder Productions, an independent producer of cable and reality programming. Cleary began her legal career at Saban Entertainment, supporting all acquisition-and production-related agreements on a wide range of children’s television programming. In 2011 and 2012, she was named a finalist of the Los Angeles Business Journal's Corporate Counsel Awards. Cleary holds a bachelors and masters degree from Rutgers University, and a juris doctorate degree from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles. Cleary is a member of the California and District of Columbia Bar Associations and a past Chairman of the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Entertainment and Intellectual Property Law section.
