Public Consultation on the Review of EU Copyright Rules

On February 7, 2014, IFTA submitted formal comments in response to the European Commission’s Public Consultation on the Review of the EU Copyright Rules.  The Commission initiated its Public Consultation as part of its effort to “ensure that the EU copyright regulatory framework stays fit for purpose in the digital environment.”

Among other topics, the Commission poses in dramatic terms the question of whether territorial exclusivity is acceptable in the context of online audiovisual services and it is seriously considering measures that would require cross-border online distribution without regard to traditional territories.

More information and a copy of the official Public Consultation document can be found on the European Commission website.
