Independent Film & Television Alliance Hits Membership Milestone With Largest Growth In 20 Years

The Independent Film & Television Alliance® (IFTA®) has seen its largest membership growth in 20 years with 35 companies joining in the past year. The steady increase in film and television production globally, disruption of long-standing business models, and the fresh perspective of new companies tackling the international market have all largely contributed to the surge. The current film and television landscape has given rise to a diverse independent industry that necessitates one cohesive international organization to advocate for it more than ever before.

“Our member companies are seeking a strong advocate for their interests and a community in which common concerns can be shared and solutions can be developed.  IFTA is the only global organization that meets that need,” said IFTA President and CEO Jean Prewitt. “Many of IFTA’s new member companies are seeing and embracing new opportunities and creating unique businesses – they are eager to join the industry conversation and thrive in this ever-changing environment.”

Asia is one region where IFTA is experiencing a significant increase in members joining, as well as growth in attendance and participation at its annual American Film Market® (AFM®). The active community and expertise among the established IFTA members have encouraged international growth for the association as the hub for guidance and access to information on business practices and norms. Providing the voice for the independent film and television industry worldwide, IFTA speaks out on issues of critical importance for independents, influencing public policy debates on issues such as Intellectual Property Rights & Anti-Piracy, Internet Policy, Market Access & Trade Barriers, and Media Consolidation.

Horizontal consolidation and vertical integration of the major studios, broadcasters, and cable companies and the rise of global video platforms are impacting distribution opportunities for independents.  With this considerable redirection in the market, companies are seeking IFTA as an advocate as well as benefiting from its market-oriented services, worldwide knowledge, solidarity and support as they navigate this new era.
