WHAT IS IFTA? IFTA is the trade association for the independent film and television industry. IFTA's global membership distributes (and often produces) the films and programs made outside the seven major studios. IFTA's Members generate more than $4 billion annually in worldwide distribution revenues. WHAT IS THE IFTA FOUNDATION? The Foundation was established to promote the educational and charitable purposes of the independent film and television industries and their local communities. IFTA Foundation's mission is to diversify and strengthen the independent film and television industry and its local communities, and positively impact the arts and entertainment by supporting meaningful programs. WHO ARE IFTA's MEMBERS? IFTA Members are an internationally diverse group of independent producers and distributors. IFTA Member Companies include: 2929 International, CJ Entertainment, Filmax International, Focus Features, Fortissimo Film Sales, Fremantelmedia Enterprises, Golden Harvest Entertainment, Intermedia, Lions Gate Films International, Media 8 Entertainment, New Line Cinema, NU Image, Pathe International, Sogepaq S.A., Group, Studiocanal, Svensk Filmdustri, TF1 International, The Weinstein Company and 140 other leading independent film and television companies. IFTA Members are responsible for the financing, production and distribution of award-winning films such as: Crash, Million Dollar Baby, Chicago, The Pianist, Talk To Her, Bowling for Columbine, The Hours, Far From Heaven, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Dances with Wolves, In the Bedroom, Chocolat, Monster's Ball, Pulp Fiction, Driving Miss Daisy, The Last Emperor, Life Is Beautiful, Shakespeare in Love, The Silence of the Lambs, and Traffic, to name but a few. WHAT IS THE IFTA FOUNDATION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AND HOW DOES IT WORK? The IFTA Foundation established the IFTA Foundation Internship Program to bring fresh, unique and diverse voices to independent film and television. Applicants accepted into the Internship Program will be matched with an IFTA Member Company based on interest of the Intern and needs of the IFTA Member Company. Internships are currently available at certain U.S. and U.K. based Member Companies. The schedule and requirements of each internship will be discussed between the Intern and the Member Company and coordinated through IFTA The IFTA Foundation will provide Interns with an orientation about the independent film and television industry before Interns are placed. WHAT CAN INTERNS EXPECT TO GAIN FROM THE EXPERIENCE? Although an IFTA Foundation Internship does not guarantee placement beyond the internship period, Interns may expect to network with professionals in the industry and begin to form lasting relationships. Interns in paid positions will be paid by the IFTA Member at least minimum wage for their work, and alternatively, college students will earn approved college credit. Both types of internships will provide invaluable insight and real world work experience for Interns. IFTA Member Companies are generally small to medium size and therefore have the motivation to involve interns in substantive aspects of the business. WHAT QUALITIES ARE IMPORTANT IN IFTA FOUNDATION INTERNS? The IFTA Foundation will consider all applications with emphasis on those who demonstrate a strong interest in independent film and television production and distribution. This is a unique experience for hardworking, serious, bright individuals from diverse backgrounds with solid oral and written skills.
